As we build our school - let's build theirs.... The students and staff at St. Albert Catholic High School are involved in an exciting project. We are helping to build a school in Ghana Africa. This project began in Drayton Valley and we are part of several groups who are raising funds for this worthwhile project. We have committed to helping for three years and this is the second year. Last year we raised close to $8,000 through the hard work of the IB CAS students, the Give a Damnn Club and Student's Union. The mission of the project is to design and build a school in rural Ghana in a town called Awaso. Father Paul Mensah will be the Head Master of the school and we were very privileged to have him visit our school last spring where we presented him with the cheque. He spoke to staff and students about what a difference this will make in his community of Awaso. The following is a brief description of what is being accomplished thus far: Work is moving along swiftly, Fr. Paul is so excited as 17,000 bricks are sitting on the site. Two wells were drilled. (one for the school and one for the community) and we have good water. The foundation is complete to the architectural drawings (we will send you a copy as soon as we get back) and we are ready to build the walls. We have a carpenter and an electrician in the group going so we hope to have lots done and they will be able to continue on without us when we leave. This is a reality and thanks to the help of you and your students this community may be a role model for the rest of Ghana. Father Paul feels students will come from a long distance to get a "real" education so they can work. Thank you again for all you are doing and allowing the Holy Spirit to work through you.
