The Independent Living Program (ILP)
Philosophy
In keeping with the philosophy of inclusive education, students with special needs will be given a learningsetting that maximizes their opportunity to be educated within the larger educational community. Decisions regarding placement and instruction will be guided by the development of an IndividualizedProgram Plan, which will be the result of a process of assessment and involve consultation with staff, parents and the student when appropriate. The skills, knowledge and attitudes developed in the programare aimed at helping to prepare students to function as independently as possible within the surrounding community.
Purpose
- To provide age and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for all students
- To help students become active and contributing members of society
- To promote awareness and involvement in opportunities for life long learning.
