The aim of the Physical Education program at St. Albert Catholic is to further strengthen and develop physical fitness and motor skills, which will then carry on through adult life. To obtain an Alberta High school diploma all students must have a minimum requirement of Phys. Ed 10 for 3 credits. Studies have shown that strong and active bodies help create a better overall quality of life. To support this, SACHS physical education is taught following these basic general outcomes at the 10, 20 and 30 levels.
In addition to the regular physical education classes, St. Albert Catholic offers a High Performance Physical Education 10 class for 5 credits. This class is aimed at serious athletes, male and female, who thrive on competition in a multitude of sport settings and enjoy being active on a daily basis. This class is also involved in the community, visiting local schools to advocate the benefits of physical fitness. Iron Hawk 10 is another class that focuses on personal fitness as students develop their own workout and fitness regime, examining the benefits of various types of training that best suit their individual needs. Proper nutrition and general body awareness is also explored. |
